Washington County Historical Association Cooking Series

These are special 2-hour classes and 50% of proceeds are going to support the Washington Country Historical Association, WCHA.  Please make your reservations and payments directly to the WCHA. Reservations required and space is limited. 

Bread Baking

March 15th 6:30-8:30 pm
$30 per person
(or $75 for all 3 classes)

Learn to make chewy, airy country bread, tender and chewy pizza crust and even hot stovetop pita bread and a quick homemade hummus. We will cover basic yeasted bread techniques, kneading and steam baking in a home oven. [This is NOT a sourdough bread baking class.]

Fresh Cheese Making

April 20th 6:30-8:30 pm
$30 per person
(or $75 for all 3 classes)

Take the mystery out of home cheese making a learn to make a few simple and delicious soft cheeses. These cheeses all take less than 15 minutes of work are made with simple ingredients you can get anywhere: milk, cream and various kitchen acids. We will make ricotta and turn it into a couple different delicious dishes, marscapone (aka Italian cream cheese), and homemade yogurt. [This class ONLY covers acid cheeses and NOT rennet cheeses.]

Natural Fermentation 

May 19th 6:30-8:30 pm
$30 per person
(or $75 for all 3 classes)

Vinegar and pickles don't have to go together. Learn to pickle the traditional and probiotic way with natural lacto-fermentation. We will make classic sauerkraut, basic cucumber dill pickles and even a wonderful and surprising fermented slaw.
